Viareggio is a city in the west of the Italian region of Tuscany, in the province of Lucca. The town originated from a castle that was built in 1172 by the cities of Lucca and Genoa as a defense against the city of Pisa. The city enjoys an international reputation as a seaside resort on the Liguria Sea. Apart from tourism are also industry, fisheries and floriculture important to the local economy. A visit to the harbor is very impressive, beautiful yachts and boats are lying there. There are large natural parks in south Viareggio (Parco di Migliarino, San Rossore and Massaciuccoli). This area includes 23 kilometers of coastline, dunes, forests and the lake Lago di Massaciuccoli.
